Sammamish Issaquah Food Project Neighborhood Coordinator
Special Needs Advocate
For almost 25 years, I have been fortunate to call Sammamish my home. Here, I am not only raising my family but also actively volunteering in local organizations, fostering deep connections and friendships. Originally from Ireland, Sammamish has become my chosen hometown, offering a safe and beautiful environment to raise my family.
Currently, I have the privilege of serving on the Sammamish City Council, a position I was appointed to in July 2022. Prior to this, I served as Planning Commissioner from 2017 to 2020. Additionally, I am honored to hold the role of Co-Chair on the Sammamish YMCA board, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting community well-being. Furthermore, I actively serve as a neighborhood coordinator for the Sammamish Issaquah Food Project working towards addressing food insecurity in our community one green shopping bag at a time.
My commitment to community engagement is driven by a passion for connection and making a positive difference. As a special needs advocate for my oldest child with autism, I bring firsthand experience and a profound understanding of the importance of inclusive policies and support systems. In addition, I actively participate in my neighborhood Homeowners Association (HOA), furthering my dedication to maintaining high community standards and enhancing our collective quality of life.
Beginning this journey of running for local public office fills me with enthusiasm and determination. I am eager to earn your vote for the Sammamish City Council, as I am wholeheartedly committed to representing and serving the best interests of our community. Your input matters to me, and I encourage you to reach out to share what is important to you about your life in Sammamish. Together, let's build a thriving and harmonious future for our beloved city.
As we emerge from the pandemic, continuing to ensure that Sammamish is a safe environment where individuals and families can thrive. Also recognizing the importance of accessible resources and support systems for mental health. By working collaboratively, we can make the process of discovering where to begin to reach out for help and support.
Sammamish is blessed with an inspiring natural world. One of the best indicators of the health of our natural world is our salmon population. Ensuring the revival of our fresh water Kokanee Salmon is a worthy project. Establishing Sammamish as a Tree City would further our environmental goals and sustain our natural elements,An example would be mini forests-Miyawaki method. There are many more local environmental projects we could accomplish together as a community who cherishes the natural world.
Supporting our local businesses is a key element to driving the fiscal health of our City. By prioritizing the development of a comprehensive local business directory, we can effectively showcase and uplift our vibrant business community, both those with physical storefronts and those operating in less visible capacities. In addition, there are numerous other collaborative projects we can undertake to foster economic growth. One such project is the organization of a job fair in partnership with our local Chamber of Commerce. This initiative would connect job seekers with local employment opportunities, empowering individuals while simultaneously bolstering our local economy.
Sammamish is fortunate to maintain a debt-free status, a commendable achievement. However, it is crucial to address the ongoing trend of drawing from our general fund to cover expenses. To secure a more sustainable future, we must explore avenues to increase revenues and effectively manage rising costs.
This is how we build a more inclusive, connected and accepting community. Working with community based organizations has been some of my most rewarding experiences. We must continue to foster a spirit of giving back to our community. We can begin this by establishing a volunteer open house to highlight where residences of all ages can donate their time and passion to local causes of their choice or learn more about civic engagement and work with our commissions.
We are thrilled to have you visit our website and learn more about our mission to create positive change in our community. But we can't do it alone. Your financial support will play a vital role in propelling our campaign forward. It will enable us to effectively communicate our message, mobilize voters, and implement meaningful initiatives. Every dollar counts, and your contribution, no matter the amount, will make a real difference.
